You may have trouble greeting an Uber on May 8, as Minneapolis is one of seven US cities where drivers are taking part in a strike against the carpool service.
The strike has been scheduled to coincide with the launch of Uber on the stock market.
Fortune notes that there will probably remain drivers on the day of the strike, but this will result in an increase in prices and waiting times for customers on May 8th.
The action is supported by groups including Gig Workers Rising, which uses Uber and Lyft, another carpool service, pays drivers an "hourly rate of living" after fees.
They also want companies to treat drivers as employees rather than contractors, providing disability benefits, occupational benefits, PTO, retirement, health and death benefits.
Recode reported in October that Uber drivers earned an average of $ 14.73 a month, not counting the expenses incurred by drivers, including insurance, gasoline and vehicle depreciation.
A study by Ridester estimated that each Uber driver paid $ 5 an hour per vehicle, which reduces the average amount earned by a driver to only $ 9.73 per hour.
