Ubisoft is shutting down Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad, just a year after its release.

The mobile title launched worldwide in August 2020 and is a free-to-play action RPG that brings together players from Tom Clancy games such as Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, The Division, Splinter Cell, HAWX, and EndWar.

However, a new post on the game’s official website today announced its closure.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that we will no longer be releasing new content for Elite Squad,” the statement read.

“Today’s update will be our last, and on October 4, 2021, we will be shutting down the servers.

“It was not an easy decision, but after exploring several options with our teams, we came to the conclusion that it was no longer viable. We want to assure you that we’ve really done our best, especially with some big updates like Season 2, and it has been a truly rewarding experience working with you, our passionate community!

“We sincerely hope you enjoyed playing with us as much as we enjoyed making the game and chatting with all of you on social media and Discord. We hope some of you will stick with us and have fun reaching level 70 and unlocking all possible soldiers before you say goodbye.

While Elite Squad is in the process of being shut down, Ubisoft hasn’t completely given up on the idea of free-to-play games set in Tom Clancy’s universe.

This week, he revealed Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, a free-to-play 6-v-6 arena FPS featuring characters from series like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and The Division.

It will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PC, Luna, and Stadia, with full cross-play expected at launch.

Players can register for a chance to test the game, with the first test scheduled for August 5 for players from the United States and Canada.
