Far cry Games apparently exist in the same universe, based on characters like squat appearing in several games, and their reference to past events of older titles. While Ubisoft continued to officially connect the games using recurring characters, fans had their own unofficial theory about a certain villain from Far cry 2 and how he could actually be a character from the original Far cry. Now Ubisoft has confirmed that yes, The Jackal is Jack Carver.

In Far cry 2, released in 2008, you play as a mercenary randomly sent to an unnamed African country to kill a notorious arms dealer known simply as The Jackal. Things don’t go quite as planned as you end up catching malaria and the jackal hides, forcing you to work with the various warring factions as you hunt the jackal and deal with your illness. Overall, it’s a good game. (It’s not my favorite Far cry entrance, I am rather FC3 guy, but I get the call.)

But while the game never tells you who the jackal was, fans have basically had a solid theory since 2008. They believe that Jack Carver, the main character of the original Far cry game and its extensions is in fact … the Jackal in Far cry 2! * DRAMATIC MUSIC *

It’s crazy, some might have laughed at this theory, but it turns out that this time the fans got it right. In an interview with meGN Far Cry 2 ‘creative director, Clint Hocking confirmed that the fan theory was correct.

“Jack Carver in the original Far cry was that kind of sneaky crook, smuggler and smuggler, ”Hocking said IGN. “The idea was [the Jackal] it’s just him, 10 years later or something, after seeing everything he saw on this island [during the events of Far Cry]. Maybe it was drug induced, maybe it’s post traumatic stress disorder, or maybe it’s real. But the idea is, a decade later, that he improved his smuggling game and found himself embroiled in this conflict.

Prior to this brutal confirmation, fans had a few different pieces of evidence that they believed proved their theory. Villainous Jackal and Carver both have similar backgrounds, with both gun smuggling and military service. More obvious proof can be found in Far cry 2files from. The textures of the Jackal are actually called “jackcarver”, which, yes, that kind of betrays it.. But then again, it could have been a placeholder name or an Easter egg for dataminers. Now, with Hocking’s confirmation, fans can lift that mystery and work on something else.

For example, people are still trying to figure out how a nuclear weapon exploded in the world of Far cry and started a whole war, as seen in New dawn, but still Far cry 6 just seems to ignore this. The easy answer is what the developers said: games are connected but those connections are loose and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

However, this explanation is not sufficient for some diehards. Far cry fanatics and I expect them to keep working on theories to connect everything until a real nuclear war or a developer at Ubisoft confirms that it’s all true. They might also want to spend some time explaining where all the Trigens have gone..
