Update: Since the publication of this story, a Ubisoft representative told IGN that Julian was "joking" with his tweets about a potential new Splinter cell.

"Julian obviously liked it, it seems our creative directors are having fun right now, we have no announcements yet," said Ubisoft's representative at IGN by email.

The original IGN report is as follows:

Tom Clancy's beloved franchise, Splinter Cell, from Ubisoft might well come back.

Julian Gerighty, creative director of The Division 2, tweeted out "Work on the next #SplinterCell with @danhaynow and @romcamor in #Lyon"He went on to say that he" could not wait for E3. "

He then followed with a second tweet, writing "Ok – plz do not retweet, I can get in trouble. Since his tweets, Geright's Twitter image has been updated to include Splinter Cell's iconic night vision goggles. Gerighty more followed highlighting messages he received from at least one Ubisoft public relations person.

A new Splinter Cell is also one of the games still listed in the infamous Walmart Canada leak in 2018, including Gears 5 and Borderlands 3. A separate Amazon Canada listing for Splinter Cell was also spotted in 2018.

The latest Splinter Cell game released by Ubisoft is Splinter Cell: Blacklist, a 2013 edition, developed by Ubisoft Toronto, the most recent studio behind Starlink: Battle for Atlas. Although we have not had Splinter Cell game since then, the protagonist of the Sam Fisher series has not been completely absent from the Ubisoft games.

In 2018, Ubisoft launched a Splinter Cell-themed mission in Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Michael Ironside has taken over his role as Sam Fisher. At the time of the introduction of this mission, Ironside talked about his story with Sam Fisher.

If this tweet were to reveal a new Splinter Cell game, Ubisoft is no stranger to leaks of some past titles that have proven true. Be sure to read our breakdown of the most infamous leaks of video games.

And although we do not know much about whether this new Splinter Cell should be real, we are experiencing another recently confirmed Tom Clancy game from Ubisoft, Tom Clancy's Breakthrough Ghost Recon, which is the first IGN title of This month. You can expect more exclusive coverage of IGN stops throughout May, including our recent breakdown of Breakpoint's Breakout Community Center.
