Florida coach Dan Mullen was asked on Monday how difficult it would be to manage a 10-game conference-only schedule and prepare for two more opponents with the season so close.
“We will play against anyone they put in front of us,” he said. “We had 10 great football teams on the schedule last year (along with Miami and FSU). We have 10 very good teams on the program this year. I guess there were still a few more weeks off last year, a little more space in between.
“But that’s what it is. Look at the raffle we got, which we added. I saw people who were angry with it. Not to say I’m happy, I’m not going to say I’m upset. … You are still going to play a very good team every week. So we’re just getting ready to play.
The game with the Razorbacks will pit the Gators against Feleipe Franks, transferred to Arkansas after last season. Although the game features several intriguing plots, Mullen is not looking forward to facing his former starting quarterback.
“It will be a unique affair. Obviously not ideal, for me. I don’t think for him or for us, ”Mullen said. “Obviously I have great respect for Feleipe as a person. I think he’s a great young man, I’m so happy with what he did for our program here, with the way he behaved. He’s always been a top class person, and I was really excited for him to have this whole new start for one more year in college – kind of a makeover.
“Having to play them this year brings up things that, I don’t know how good it is for anyone. But it will be unique. I know he will be motivated to play us. I’m sure our guys are probably will be motivated to play it because it’s a little more personal, you know it.I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not.
