UFC 237 weighing results: title fight, but a fight is canceled and a fighter sorely lacks

UFC straw championship star gets UFC 237 green light after champion Rose Namajunas and challenger Jessica Andrade gain weight Friday in Rio de Janeiro, but a pay-per-view card was canceled and a fighter was overweight.

Neither Namajunas nor Andrade had any problems with the scales, both weighing 114.5 pounds for their fight for the weight-straw title.

This is the first time in over a year that Namajunas entered the Octagon after taking Joanna Jedrzejczyk's belt and defending her against an immediate rematch.

Andrade starts the fight after a series of three consecutive victories. His last defeat was against Jedrzejczyk in May 2017.

The opening match scheduled on television by UFC 237 between Francisco Trinaldo and Diego Ferreira was dropped during Friday's weigh-in.

Trinaldo went to the scales, where he weighed 154.5 pounds for the lightweight contest. Ferreira, however, has never arrived. According to Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting, the MMA's Brazilian Athletics Commission (CABMMA) removed Ferreira from the fight after learning he had developed kidney stones.

The status of a preliminary fight between Irene Aldana and Bethe Correia was still undecided at the time of publication, with Correia sorely lacking in weight. She climbed on the scale at 141 pounds for their 135 pound fight and did not have time to lose weight.

UFC officials have announced that Correira will be fined 30% of his purse, which goes to Aldana, and that the fight will proceed as planned.

The rest of the battle card also remains intact with legendary middleweight Anderson Silva occupying the slot for the UFC 237 main event against rising competitor Jared Cannonier.

Silva was two steps away from another title before his last fight, but sidelined UFC interim middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, in their head of late poster UFC 234 minutes. They had been designated as the main main event before Robert Whittaker was removed from his fight against Kelvin Gastelum because of a medical emergency requiring surgery.

Cannonier enters the fight after a victory over former World Series of Fighting doubles division champion David Branch, while he was attempting to climb into the title after rising from 205 pounds to the division of middleweight with this fight.

Silva and Cannonier have each gained weight.

Jose Aldo, considered one of the greatest featherweight champions of all time, fights his country's fans against Alexander Volkanovski.

Aldo has won his last two bouts after losing two consecutive bouts with UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. Volkanovski, however, is 19 and has a run of 16 wins in six wins inside the Octagon.

Aldo needed a towel when weighing, but his weight was 146 pounds, while Volkanovski weighed 145.5 pounds.
