Max Holloway pocketed $ 50,000 in Fight of the Night bonus for his victory over Calvin Kattar in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Island 7 in Abu Dhabi. Kattar also received extra money for surviving five rounds against the former champion.
Holloway raced through the growing featherweight from the start, towering Kattar on the toes en route to a one-sided unanimous decision, winning on all judges’ scorecards (50-43, 50-43, 50-42).
Checks on the night’s performance went to Alessio Di Chirico and Li Jingliang, who scored big setbacks in their clashes with Joaquin Buckley and Santiago Ponzinibbio, respectively. The two winners also received an additional $ 50,000.
Di Chirico was paired up against Buckley, who was coming out of impressive back-to-back knockouts in 2020, including his “KO of the Year” victory over Impa Kasanganay. The Italian stopped the middleweight sensation with a header in just over two minutes.
Li greeted Ponzinibbio back in the octagon for his first time in 26 months, leaving the Argentinian unconscious on the ground with a brutal left hand in the last minute of the opening stanza.
