Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will sandwich a special midweek fight card into an already packed week of combat sports action with the UFC Fight Island 8 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which will have held TODAY (Wednesday, January 20, 2021) by way of ESPN + and ESPN from inside Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Headlining duties fall on welterweight contenders Michael Chiesa and Neil Magny, who clash for a berth in the crowded 170-pound title race. In the UFC Fight Island 8 main co-event, hot-and-cold welterweight Warlley Alves finally looks to realize his potential against UFC sophomore Mounir Lazzez.

Round 1: Jones starts off with a back kick attempt, then they hit him in the center. Davis tries a header. Heavy body shot to the right center, blocked Brazilian kick. Again with the low-high 3-2. Jones 1-2. Same combo by Davis. One minute in it. Against hard just by Davis, another jerk draws a smile. Jones comes back with a blow in combination. Consistent action so far, trade favoring Davis. He catches a low kick for an out, lands a few hard punches on the mat before Jones appears. Jones crams a takedown after landing a low kick. Davis 1-2, eats a calf kick that seems to bother him. Low kick to the side kick. Jones prepares combos, denies withdrawal. He tries a calf kick, gets knocked out with two minutes remaining.
Jones gets up and they both throw their right hands on the break. Spinning back kick, eats a right hand in response. They tie and he puts one knee inside. One minute to go. Jones continued to aim for the calf, landed a 1-2 and an uppercut before giving up another takedown. Davis attempts a header as they part ways, then lands a clean flying knee. 10-9 Davis.

135 books: Umar Nurmagomedov and Sergey Morozov
Round 1: Nurmagomedov opens with kicks, as expected. Morozov’s left hook fails, eats a leg kick. One minute. Nurmagomedov continues to threaten with raised kicks. He slips a 1-2. Knee and right hand. Morozov with a counter-top. Timely shot from Nurmagomedov, looks for the rear, catches him despite Morozov doing well. Nurmagomedov backpacking two minutes later, loses hooks, can’t get suplex. Keep chasing the pullout, great control as Morozov scrambles into each other, but they eventually split up. Morozov fills the next shot two minutes from the end,
No more attempts to kick Nurmagomedov in the head, lands a front kick. Morozov briefly attaches with the lower hooks. One minute to go. No more kicking behind. Really well timed shot from Nurmagomedov from a right forehand, immediately takes the back. 10-9 Nurmagomedov.
Round 2: Nurmagomedov immediately staggers Morozov with a header, cannot send him to the mat with calls. Morozov seems to come to his senses, denies a withdrawal. One minute in it. Looking for that head kick again, a good body kick occurs. Counter right hook. Low-blow. Morozov tries a kick in the leg, gets a nasty check. Nurmagomedov hits another withdrawal and seeks back again. It is too high and Morozov slips in for two minutes. Nurmagomedov shoots under a right cross and takes the standing back. Morozov tries another Granby roll breakout, but now Nurmagomedov is in a bigger place with the two hooks. Two minutes before.
Nurmagomedov regularly worms the RNC more and more deeply. Morozov fights with everything he has, but turn off the lights.
Final result: Nurmagomedov beats. Morozov by technical submission (naked rear choke)
125 pounds: Manon Fiorot against. Victoria Leonardo
Round 1: Fiorot sends side kicks, dodging punches and a header from Leonardo. The left hand lands for her. Another side kick. S licks a head kick soon after, then a 2-1 within the minute. Leonardo fails with his punches so far. Fiorot straight hook. Leonardo lands a kick, eats a hook. Body kick. Two minutes. Kicking, unable to tie, eat knees. Fiorot takes him to the fence, eats a right hand at the break. The hard side kick connects. Two more minutes.
Blocked Fiorot’s head kick, 1-2 fails. Leonardo trying to kick with her, rushes over and gets knocked against the fence. Fiorot’s knees before parting. Leonardo and Fiorot try to follow. Clean 1-2. One minute later. Fiorot puts her on the fence, puts a cracking elbow on the break. Right hook behind a Superman punch. Right hook again. 10-9 Fiorot.
Round 2: More kicks from Fiorot, clean right hook. Counter 2-1. Leonardo keeps throwing but struggles with reach. Side kick again by Fiorot. 1-2, frame, right hand at the minute. Leonardo looks for a reactive shot, refused. Fiorot with a jab two minutes later, continuing to advance. Naughty against left. Fiorot takes him to the fence and looks for a withdrawal, puts him on half-guard. Two more minutes.
Fiorot lands a little guard, then lets go. Check the hook. Turn completely to the left, check the hook. One minute to go. A kick to the head stings Leonardo and Fiorot discharges with punches until the referee intervenes.
Final result: Fiorot def. Leonardo by TKO (head kick and punches)
