Former UFC champion, B.J. Penn, was released from the promotion.
UFC President Dana White told Yahoo! Sports will no longer compete Thursday in the organization with which he made his professional debut in 2001.
Recently, White had virtually declared that the age of 40 with the organization was over as a result of an incident in Hawaii that involved Penn in a physical altercation in and around a club. A video footage of the incident made its way into social media and, after seeing it, White called the scene "sad" and added that Penn "will not fight anymore." it's a wrap. "
At that time, Penn was apparently in talks to fight Nik Lentz at a future UFC event.
In an interview with TSN, Penn explained that he was trying to avoid trouble and defuse the situation before it escalated into an incident made public by TMZ.
Penn (16-14-2) was one of the most popular and successful fighters in the UFC, winning the world titles at 155 and 170 pounds. He has won victories over Matt Hughes and Matt Serra, members of the UFC's Hall of Fame, as well as on Diego Sanchez, Kenny Florian, Sean Sherk, Jens Pulver and Takanori Gomi.
"The Prodigy" has not managed to replicate this success in recent years. His last eight bouts have earned him a 0-7-1 record and he has not won since his trilogy win against Hughes at UFC 123 in November 2010.
