The supposed extraterrestrial base was destroyed by NASA's Mars Odyssey mission in 2001 near the Olympus Mons – the largest known volcano in the solar system. The incredible NASA photo shows rock structures at the bottom right of the image, which according to UFO expert Scott C Waring, are extraterrestrial buildings. Mr. Waring, who runs the UFO conspiracy blog Sightings Daily, said the photo clearly shows an extraterrestrial pyramid connected to another square building. He said, "What would an old alien base look like on Mars?
"Well, this photo from NASA's website clarifies this question. I found a foreign base at the bottom of the photo.
"What really stands out is the square structure with a tunnel connecting a pyramidal area.
"What it tells me is that the extraterrestrials who created it did not just go around the world freely, but instead used the tunnels to stay safe."
According to the UFO hunter, the alien base on the NASA photo is just one of the hundreds scattered around the red planet.

Mr. Waring is recognized in the community of UFO enthusiasts for having digitized thousands of photographs of Mars and the Moon in search of evidence of extraterrestrial activity.
His supposed extraterrestrial discoveries often seem to be nothing more than strange-shaped rocks and a vaguely alien shadow.
But the conspiracy theorist is certain that extraterrestrial life, past and present, exists within the boundaries of our solar system.
He said: "This is just one of the hundreds of buildings reported in NASA's photos.

"Can you imagine how extraterrestrials had to interact and influence the history of humanity on Earth?
"These creative geniuses who changed the world with their art, religion, mathematics, science and technology were either influenced by extraterrestrials to do the work, or were extraterrestrials themselves.
"So, if we knew the truth about extraterrestrials, it would force humanity to look back into history and see where the extraterrestrials influenced us most." Our whole story could change forever. "
However, according to NASA, the strange rocks of the Martian photo are perfectly natural.

NASA's Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) took the photo on June 2, 2002, listing the volcanic flows of Olympus Mons.
The US Space Agency said: "Some images have helped answer questions about the history of Mars, but many have raised new questions that are being investigated while Odyssey continues to collect data while it's around Mars.
"This image was collected on June 2, 2002 at the beginning of the northern spring.
"One can deduce from the relative timing of volcanic flows from Olympus Mons and the formation of the structure that the flows are cut by the fracture and that they fill and cross the fracture."
A good explanation of why Mr. Waring is convinced that the triangular rock is an extraterrestrial pyramid is the effect of parureidolia.
Parureidolia is a psychological trick that makes people see forms and shapes where they do not exist.
NASA explained, "Parureidolia is a psychological phenomenon in which people see recognizable forms in clouds, rock formations, or unrelated objects or data.
"There are many examples of this phenomenon on Earth and in space."
