More than 60 large flames burning across the United States, mostly in the West. A forest fire southeast of Salt Lake City burned more than 60 square miles. A fire in southwest Denver increased to about 160 square miles. (July 6th)

While dozens of forest fires roar in the hot, dry west of the United States, the first fatal fire in the country was reported in a fire fast near the California-Oregon border. The spokesperson of the Ministry of Forests and Fire Protection, Suzi Brady, said Friday that the person died in the fire that began Thursday, but that she did not could disclose other details. Klamathon Fire threatens 300 homes near Hornbook, California, a town of 250 residents about 14 miles south of the Oregon border.

Barbara Taylor's house was destroyed for 40 years in the Klamathon fire. She said that someone found her cat "alive, but she sang."

"I can not believe I left it there," Taylor said, holding back her tears.
