A policeman from Weymouth was shot dead Sunday morning and the police described the situation as "very critical".
Witnesses testified that they heard gunshots between 7 am and 7:30 am I am in the Burton Terrace area. A witness, who was sitting in the company of a dog, said he heard police officers shouting at someone to put a firearm before 10 to 15 shots were fired.
Sources tell 5 Investigations, the officer may have been injured by the suspect with his own weapon. Sources also revealed that 5 A second victim, identified as an innocent person, was also shot and seriously injured.
Another witness said he saw the CPR administered to the officer . He was taken to South Shore Hospital with serious injuries.
Police said the suspect was in detention.
There is a significant police presence on Burton Terrace. About a dozen shell casings could be seen on the floor and a house had bullet holes drilled through its window.
Just a block away is South Shore Hospital where there is another crime scene. It is believed that the whole situation began with someone who was driving erratically near the hospital before hitting another car.
Sources tell WCVB that one of the cars belonged to the suspect and the other to an employee of the hospital. Both cars were towed away from the scene.
State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office are involved in the investigation.
