The Russian gas monopoly appealed to the County Court of Svea, Sweden, at the end of March 2018. Later, Gazprom stated that they would not pay compensation to Naftogaz until they receive the decision of this court of appeal.

Recall that Naftogaz is suing Gazprom in 2014 on two major issues: Russian natural gas prices and transit.

On December 22, 2017, Naftogaz claimed to have won the arbitration against the Russian Gazprom in the case of gas supply. Naftogaz has also managed to reduce its future mandatory annual volumes by more than 10 times based on its actual gas import needs.

On February 28, Stockholm Arbitration satisfied Naftogaz's claims to Gazprom for a gas transit trial amounting to $ 4.673 billion. Thus, according to the results of two arbitrations between gas supply and transit companies, Gazprom must pay Naftogaz $ 2.56 billion to Naftogaz.

Gazprom has confirmed its commitment to pay 2.56 billion Naftogaz, but does not share this decision.

According to the decision of Stockholm, Ukraine is obliged to buy Russian gas using the formula "take or pay". However, on March 1, 2018, Gazprom canceled gas deliveries already paid to Ukraine.

Due to the cessation of supply from Russia, Ukraine reduced its gas consumption by 25 million cubic meters or 14% on March 2. In Ukraine, temporarily limited gas consumption, schools and universities have been recommended to close before March 6 for gas savings. However, on March 6 in the morning, the Ministry of Energy announced the end of the crisis of gas supply.
