Two policemen in Falmouth recover after shooting with a suspect on Friday night, leaving one officer shot dead on his neck and another shot in the chest
Falmouth Police and the Cape and Islands Local Attorney identified the suspect who allegedly opened fire on two policemen, Malik Antonio Koval, 21, of East Falmouth
Authorities reported that the two officers responded to a disturbance call on Ashley Drive in East Falmouth around 5:35 pm Friday:
During the officers' investigation, Koval reportedly became agitated and reportedly withdrew a rifle and allegedly opened fire. Police in Falmouth said the emergency responders transported both agents and Koval to Falmouth Hospital. During the night, police reported that Koval had been transported from Beth Israel to Plymouth to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston for further treatment.
In an online message Saturday morning, police in Falmouth announced that the police had been shot dead separately. one in the chest. The officer shot in the chest was also shot at least once in his ballistic jacket, police said.
Falmouth police say both officers should recover. According to the WCVB, an officer is married and has three children and has been working for the ministry for less than five years, while the other is single and served in the ministry for five years.
Koval's 21-year-old aunt, who identified herself as Emmalyn Anderson, told WCVB that Koval "was trying to mentally fix several things" and "was trying to recover."
At a press conference in Falmouth on Friday night, police chief Edward Dunne told reporters that the shootings against police officers were occurring "way too much."
