FALMOUTH – Officer Donald DeMiranda has a calming influence on the East Falmouth neighborhood where he lives. His neighbor next door said that knowing that he is nearby makes him feel safe.
On Saturday, this neighborhood was hoping DeMiranda and his colleague, Constable Ryan Moore, would recover quickly after being injured Friday afternoon in a shootout.
"We always feel safe next to us," said Maryellen Swain. , The neighbor of DeMiranda. "Falmouth is a wonderful place, but like any place, we have our problems."
Injured officers were identified earlier Saturday by Falmouth Police Chief Edward A. Dunne
One was treated for a gunshot wound to the neck and the other was injured in the chest above his bulletproof vest. According to an article posted on the ministry's Facebook page, they should both recover.

. The suspect in the shootings, Malik Koval, 21, of East Falmouth, was also shot. He was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth and from there he was flown to Brigham and Women Hospital in Boston, according to Falmouth Police. It was in a steady state starting at 4 am Saturday, according to Tara Miltimore, a spokeswoman for Cape Town District Attorney and Islands, Michael O Keefe.
