Poland and Denmark agreed Friday, November 30 to lay a gas pipeline at the bottom of the Baltic Sea to provide Norwegian gas. According to the plan, the 900 km Baltic Pipe pipeline is expected to start pumping gas in Poland in 2022, when the Warsaw contract with Russia's Gazprom will end.
"We have managed today to make a quantum leap in the security and independence of the Polish energy sector.An investment decision has been made to create a strategic gas pipeline, Baltic Pipe , which will allow the import of gas from the Norwegian plateau across Denmark, "said Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Moravetsky on Twitter.

The Polish gas companies GAZ-SYSTEM SA and Danish Energinet SOV have announced the development of a pipeline agreement for commissioning by October 1, 2022. The pipeline's capacity is expected to reach 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The project enjoys financial support from the EU of 51.4 million euros from the European Mechanism Connect (CEF). The total cost of building a pipeline is not disclosed.
Poland has already signed an agreement on the supply of liquefied natural gas from the United States with the aim of weakening its dependence on Russian gas under conditions of tension with Moscow. In addition, Poland plans to import blue fuels from Norway and Qatar.
