One child died and at least 40 other people, mostly children, were reportedly injured Police said Monday that a coach carrying a team of young players from a championship match had crashed Monday morning in Arkansas, police said.

The accident was reported Monday at 2:40 (3:40 pm ET) after departure of the chartered bus from the road.

The chartered bus was carrying a football team for youth returning from a championship game in Dallas, Texas this weekend, police said.

The bus driver survived the accident and was interrogated by soldiers, the police said.

State police said the wounded had been transported to local hospitals in Little Rock. Benton.

A spokeswoman for Arkansas Children's Hospi Tal said they had received more than 20 patients. The hospital did not reveal the patients' health conditions, worrying their families, the spokeswoman said.

Three other hospitals received patients, said the spokeswoman.
