By the end of 2019, a second series electric car, Porsche – Cross Turismo, will be marketed. In preparation for the release of the serial version, German engineers are using digital development and virtual prototyping methods.

They allow, for example, a few months before the real machine is tested, to test it on the north loop of the Nürburgring.

Nowadays, the most complex software complexes allow to simulate the appearance of the car, to define the central electrical, chassis and electronic components, as well as perform virtual tests in detail.

For example, when the arrival of the Taycan on the virtual server "Nordschleife", engineers could check the performance of the power plant and the efficiency of the electrical power management system.

In addition, Porsche applies hardware and software modeling when visual nodes of cars must be tested with real components . This approach covers the creation of intermediate prototypes because the optimization of individual elements occurs at an early stage of development.

One of their "side effects" of the digitization of the development process and the car itself will be the concept of "feature on demand". Porsche thinks that in the future, the addition of new options to the car can be done even after the purchase. Thus, the owners will be able to customize the car according to their current needs. In addition, part of the integrated software can be upgraded "by air".
