Few people knew that the man would be the alleged killer of his sister.

"We went to the villa, this guy shook our hand, looked us in the eye, he told his false story," said Caicedo. "And we could not feel anything like that, like, I can not believe it."

Caicedo's sister, Carla Stefaniak, was found dead, her body was found near the apartment complex where she was staying at the end of her holidays to celebrate her 36th birthday.

A 32-year-old Nicaraguan national, Bismarck Espinoza Martinez, was arrested on the grounds of Stefaniak's death, according to Costa Rican officials. He was security officer in the apartment complex where Stefaniak's Airbnb was located.

"How cold can you feel at heart?" Caicedo told WPLG. "And such a monster, because you have to be something else, dude, to do something like that."

Stefaniak was friendly, bubbly and loved to travel, said his sister-in-law.

Stefaniak, American citizen. and resident of South Florida, disappeared last month during his stay in the apartment located outside San José, the capital of Costa Rica.

On Monday, a partially decomposed body was found about 300 meters from the apartment complex, according to Walter Espinoza, spokesman for Costa Rica's judicial investigation department.

The body shows signs of violent death, according to his father, also named Carlos Caicedo.

"It's an absolutely violent death," he said in an interview with CNN in Español. "And we wonder why, we have no explanation."

His family confirmed in a Facebook message Wednesday morning that his father had seen the body, which belonged to Stefaniak.

An autopsy revealed multiple knife wounds and "upper extremities", as well as blunt trauma to the head, said government spokesman Espinoza.

There were also stains inside the apartment where she stayed "that are compatible with the blood and that will be the subject of further investigation and d & # 39; A comparison, "he said.

The suspect was in the apartment next door, according to officials

Espinoza Martinez was staying in the apartment next to Stefaniak's rent, said Espinoza, spokesman for the government .

"The person related to this homicide (Espinoza Martinez) was close to her and had time and place to commit the crime," he said.

Detectives who interviewed people in contact with Espinoza Martinez became suspicious when they noticed that his statements were contradictory, said Espinoza.

The security guard told Stefaniak's family that he had last seen her around 5 am on November 28, going to Uber to surrender at the airport, according to Leandro Fernandez, a friend of the victim.

But that makes no sense, Fernandez told WSVN, because Stefaniak's flight only ended at midday.

The family later learned that there was no trace in Uber's account of Stefaniak since that day, Fernandez said. CNN went to Costa Rica to celebrate the 36 years of Stefaniak. They had traveled together for six days, staying in seaside towns outside San Jose, before Stefaniak dropped off Burton at the airport on November 27 and returned their rental car.

Stefaniak had to leave the next morning, according to CNN affiliate, WSVN.

But her loved ones became worried last week when she stopped contacting them and was not on her flight back from Costa Rica.

A friend of Stefaniak in New York was the last person known to get in touch with her, Caicedo told CNN in Español. Stefaniak told her friend that she was very thirsty and that she wanted to leave her to Airbnb to fetch water, but it was raining too hard outside.

Until then, "I have had constant communication with her," Caicedo said. "She would send videos, texts."

During their travels, Stefaniak told his father: "It's a safe country and we feel really safe."
