A California teacher faces charges after forcibly cutting off a student's hair while singing a hymn

Margaret Gieszinger, a 52-year-old former teacher at Visalia's University Preparatory High School, faces six counts of minor offenses: an unlawful head of imprisonment, two counts of cruelty to a child, two battery managers, and a leader of aggression. According to the Tulare County District Attorney's Office, she could serve a prison sentence of up to three and a half years of imprisonment if she is found guilty of all charges. .

"He could not believe what was happening," said Mark Vogt, a student lawyer whose hair was cut by Gieszinger. Witnesses told CNN's affiliate, KFSN, that Gieszinger had appeared at his first lecture chemistry of the time holding up a pair of scissors and saying that it was the day of the cut. As the events unfolded, a student ran to the main office to ask for help.

Students also told KFSN that this was not the first strange episode involving the teacher.

The Tulare County Education Office has put counselors of its mental health services program at the disposal of all students who need to speak. The University Preparatory High School promises that Gieszinger will never return to his classrooms.

"We take student safety very seriously in classrooms," said the Education Office in a statement. "We are reviewing all available information and will take the toughest measures possible."

Gieszinger was released from prison in Tulare County on Friday night after posting a $ 100,000 bail, according to the KFSN. He was ordered to stay at least 100 meters from the college preparatory high school.

Gieszinger's husband told the KFSN that the behavior shown in the mobile phone video was completely different from that of his wife.

"She does not do things like that," he told KFSN reporter Brian Johnson. "It's not her, it's not who she is, so I do not know what was going on with her, I do not know why she did that."
