Whitey Bulger's lawyer announced that he would sue for murder in jail

BOSTON (AP) – A lawyer for James "Whitey" Bulger has announced his intention to sue the government for the murder of an infamous gangster.

Attorney Hank Brennan told the Wall Street Journal that he was going to sue for alleged death and negligence on behalf of Bulger's estate.

Brennan told The Associated Press that he was planning to sue over the next month but that he refused to provide additional details.

Bulger was serving a life sentence for 11 murders and other crimes when he was beaten to death in October, a few hours later was transferred to a West Virginia prison.

Authorities said two Massachusetts gangsters were suspected of killing the 89-year-old man.

The Bureau of Prisons declined to comment on Monday.
