British scientists identified eight genes associated with red hair

The University of the United States. Edinburgh has conducted the most recent genetic study on the subject. while people inherit hair color.

It was once believed that hair ore controlled a gene, MC1R, transmitted by both parents.

However, transmission of this gene does not always lead to redness in children. So, other genes are involved in this process.

  • Have scientists found the longevity gene?
  • Is it necessary to control the gene gene jolie in all women?

Scientists have studied the DNA of nearly 350,000 people who participated in the study and discovered eight previously unknown genes.

The researchers also discovered unknown characteristics of nearly 200 genes previously.

Albert Tensees, a professor at the University of Edinburgh, said: "We are very pleased that this work has revealed many genetic variations that have led to different hair colors people."

His colleague from the same university, Ian Jackson with showed that it was "a vast and unique genetic study that drew half a million Britons", which allowed the discovery of new genes.

The research was published in Nature Communications, funded by the Council of Medical Research and the Council for the Study of Biotechnology and Biological Sciences.
