Olympian General Director Alexei Antonov spoke about the change of name of the club and the possible change in the placement of the team.
– How will today's cases find the basis for the first team? The churches, with people from there. There are certain nuances. All that is required of us, we have provided. We brought the specialists, showed them a place on the river, where we saw the base, they looked at the stadium. It is now up to the city authorities to know if they are ready for the construction of the stadium. Our fans are waiting for us there, if we agree, we will gladly be part of this beautiful city.
– How has the infrastructure of the "Olympic Games" changed since 2014, when the team forcibly moved to Kiev? There was excellent infrastructure, we had everything we needed for the Premier League club. The academy, where about 600 children were trained, training grounds, a base, a new stadium for 5,000 people, is ready to host qualifying matches for the European Cups. In Kiev, we have to rent everything. Among the positives, I note that this year we opened our office in the capital, where the accountant and the personnel department can work in pleasant conditions. We can now meet in the office and solve urgent problems. We plan to grow and continue to grow.
– The infrastructure in Donetsk is now operational
– First, armed gangs passed by, we took our office, our administrative building and our hotel room. Barricaded and made a military base there. But in spite of these facts, the president thought that peace would be established and that we would return home, so he retained people and infrastructure.
– Olympic is about to change its name. Tell me why did you decide to change something in that direction?
– I do not want to cover myself, but the idea was still mine. Many have suggested that our logo is a bit outdated. It's a story, we respect it, but let's go ahead. There are examples of great clubs and the same Shakhtar, whose new emblem was not highly recommended in the beginning. But what now? All she put in an example. "Miners" turned to European society, we asked our fans to help us in the choice, announced the competition. As a result, we received about 220 logos, the most diverse – with lions, torches, different shapes. But collectively, we have always come up with the very first option we found with our press officer before the start of the competition. I am happy that the author of the new emblem is Dmitry Strauss, our countryman. In this emblem, everything seems harmonious, it tells the story of our club and the city.
– What steps will follow in terms of rebranding?
– I believe that everything is happening progressively. We changed the club logo and now, I think, the history of the "Olympics" will change. Something changes in life, all life changes. We plan to modify the form before the start of the new season, we plan to update our club bus in accordance with the new branding. And in the near future we will be launching a new website and a new online store for fans.
