The European Parliament adopts a resolution against North Stream-2

Members of the European Parliament have called the North Stream 2 gas pipeline construction project "a policy threatening Europe's energy security".

The resolution against the completion of the construction of the Russian gas pipeline in particular calls on the governments of European states to abandon the "North Stream 2".

In addition, support is provided for the imposition of sanctions against the pipeline in accordance with paragraph 232 of the "Law against American Opponents through Sanctions".

The construction of the North Stream 2 gas pipeline across the Baltic Sea has already begun and is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of the North Stream 2 pipeline, reported that more than 200 kilometers of the marine part of the pipeline had already been built.

Since the end of 2019, the North Stream 2 gas pipeline corridor is expected to transport approximately 5 5 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas each year from the Russian Federation to Germany via the Baltic Sea.

Opponents of the project – including Poland, the Baltic States, Ukraine, Moldova, the United States and Denmark – believe that North Stream will increase the EU's dependence on the Gazprom, which already supplies about a third of gas volumes to the EU.
