According to the New York Times, who was the first to report on the meeting, the two senators were present at the Warren condominium meeting in Washington. Citing two Democrats informed of their discussion, the Times said the senators said they were considering running for president by 2020.
The source close to the meeting told CNN that it is "not surprising" that the two meet, given their proximity to the Senate allies and their respective political ambitions.
Some members of the left are concerned that two highly publicized progressives who face each other are depriving each other of support from one another, which could lead to to the nomination of a less progressive candidate,
"As for the progressives, I think Bernie and Warren are in a different league," said California Democratic Representative Ro Khanna to the Times. He said, "I will have to decide" who to support if the two senators show up, according to the Times.
A Sanders spokesperson did not respond to CNN's multiple requests for comment, and Warren spokesmen declined to comment to CNN.
Last week, the Boston Globe – the newspaper of Warren's hometown – published an editorial claiming that the newspaper's editorial board was "skeptical" of a Warren 2020 race and that the Massachusetts senator had "missed his moment in 2016". Warren was severely criticized for his decision to release a DNA test in October proving his Native American heritage after President Donald Trump repeatedly attacked her and dubbed her "Pocahontas".

But, Sanders told the magazine, "it turns out I'm the best candidate to beat Donald Trump, so I'll probably run."
