Georgian authorities deplore the death of a 24-year-old officer who was shot dead after a traffic stop resulted in a foot chase on Thursday night, authorities said.

The Dekalb County Police Chief, James Conroy, was moved when he announced that Officer Edgar Flores, who had been working for the department for less than two years, "died in the # 39, performing his duties in the service of the citizens of Dekalb County ".

The shooting began when Flores blocked traffic and the driver fled on foot, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said.

The suspect, 33-year-old Brandon Taylor, fired several times at Flores, the GBI said. .

Flores died in a local hospital.

When other police rushed to the scene, a K9 policeman helped find Taylor, who was hiding in a pile of tires behind a company, said the GBI.

Taylor slaughtered the 7-year-old dog named Indi, officials said. Indi, who has five years of service, was in a stable state on Friday, the GBI announced.

Several officers fought back against Taylor, who was shot dead and also died, said Conroy.

The elected governor, Brian Kemp, tweeted about the killed officer by writing: "We are always grateful for his service and his sacrifices."

The law enforcement agencies also express their condolences.
