Scientists have a snapshot of the sun (PHOTOS)

Dawn Parker made a unique snapshot – the closest photo of the sun. Now the aircraft is 27.1 million kilometers from the star's surface.

Parker's Probe was approaching the Sun at a record distance. and made a photo where you can see the plasma emitted by the star in the space. The image was captured using the WISPR device – a widescreen television camera for the probe. The bright spot is the planet Mercury, informs Territory.

NASA sent a Parker probe to the Sun in August 2018. It must study the outer atmosphere of the star (solar corona). This area is much warmer than the sun itself – it can heat up to several million degrees Celsius (the surface temperature is only 6,000 degrees).

"We need to study samples of a new plasma to understand what physical processes there are in. We want to understand why the temperature of the atmosphere becomes even higher, and not the other way around, when the distance of a hot star is ", – said the head of NASA's Department of Heliophysical Studies, Nikola Fox.
