Two associates of former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, were charged with conspiring to defame a Turkish cleric in the United States for the purpose of extraditing him.
Biran Kian, a Flynn American Commercial partner and Turkish Kamil Ekim Alptekin were indicted by a grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia this month, according to unrevealed court documents on Monday.
The men worked for the company Flynn created after his departure from the public service. Prosecutors argue that they have not properly disclosed their work as foreign agents and have in fact set up a ploy to conceal the ultimate origin of their payments in Turkey.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blames Gulen for being behind the attempted coup d'etat two years ago. Gulen denies having played any role.
According to some reports, the question of whether to extradite Gulen could remain topical within the Trump administration
. The Turkish government has tried to help in this case. New court documents indicate that Turkish officials approved the budget for the lobbying campaign and were regularly informed. The goal was to put pressure on Gulen in the United States to urge the government to send him back to Turkey.
But Flynn's associates did not register their activities with the Attorney General as required by the court documents.
Flynn cooperates with prosecutors after pleading guilty to unrelated charges and should be sentenced this week.
