P resident, Trump at least twice criticized his acting Attorney General, accusing federal prosecutors of referring to his own actions in court documents regarding the crimes of his former executioner, Michael Cohen, according to a new report.
Trump interviewed Matthew Whitaker, appointed last November in the Justice Department, as to why federal prosecutors in New York were not being repressed, CNN reported on Friday.
The Southern District of New York involved Trump in monthly payments that Cohen paid to two women during the 2016 campaign who claimed to have relations with Trump. The president denied that the payments were campaign contributions, which would violate the campaign finance laws.
Cohen also pleaded guilty to having lied to Congress over negotiations for a possible Trump tower in Moscow.
Sources stated that Trump did not order Whitaker to stop any investigation, but rather that he released himself for a situation he considered unfair to him.
Whitaker oversees special advocate Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia since the resignation of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions last month. Trump has often spoken publicly and privately about the challenge of Sessions that oversaw the investigation, which he calls a "witch hunt".
