Rachel Uretsky-Pratt, elementary school teacher in Washington State, received many gifts. of his students on the last day of class before the winter holidays: chocolates, jewels and notes included. But it's the little bag of marshmallows Lucky Charms she remembers the most.

In an article published Wednesday on Facebook, Uretsky-Pratt said that this simple gift is a reminder to give and to thank. all year long.

"This kid wanted so much to have something, but he had nothing to give," wrote Uretsky-Pratt – a 24-year-old teacher from Kennewick, Washington State.

Uretsky-Pratt told USA TODAY Friday that the young student had given up "the best part of (his) breakfast" by giving the present.

She knows it because all the children in her school receive free or reduced meals. – and breakfast too, she writes on social media.

The child has apparently sifted the cereal, pulled out the colorful treats and placed them in a plastic wrap

Uretsky-Pratt said that when the kids presented their gifts, she accepted the bag of marshmallows like everyone else – "thank you so much, darling."

But the simple sacrifice of the child Uretsky-Pratt is said moved.

Since the message has attracted great attention, Uretsky-Pratt says she's been overwhelmed by the kindness and similar stories told by other teachers.
