HOUSTON (AP) – A man in a van stopped next to a car leaving a parking lot in the Houston area and began shooting, killing a 7-year-old girl in the car and hurting his mother. Authorities said Sunday.

Three other girls were in the car, but it is unclear whether they are also related to the woman, who was shot in the arm, according to the authorities.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Jazmine Barnes, 7, died in Twitter and Facebook posts. He added that his mother, LaPorsha Washington, 30, had been injured but had survived the injury.

The cause of the Sunday morning shooting was not clear. No arrests were made on Sunday evening

. The red van ran away after firing. The car also picked up speed before stopping and the woman called 911, authorities said.

Sheriff Major Jesse Razo said that the other girls inside the car at the time of the shooting were "shaken" and "devastated".

"We will use all available resources to bring this murderer to justice," Razo told reporters. "And I urge you, whoever did this, you know who you are, go now, because we will pick you up, we'll locate you, we'll meet you."
