Seven-year-old girl killed by gunman in Houston car park

(HOUSTON) – A man in a van stopped by a car leaving a parking lot in the Houston area and began shooting, killing a 7-year-old girl Inside the car and injuring his mother, authorities said Sunday.

Three other girls were in the car, but it is unclear whether they are also related to the woman, who was shot in the arm, according to the authorities.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told Jazmine Barnes, age 7, wrote on Twitter and Facebook that the deceased daughter had died. He added that his mother, LaPorsha Washington, 30, had been injured but had survived the injury.

The cause of the Sunday morning shooting was not clear. No arrest had been made Sunday night.

The red van fled the scene after filming. The car also picked up speed before stopping and calling 911, authorities said.

Sheriff Major Jesse Razo said that the other girls inside the car at the time of the shooting were "shaken" and "devastated".

"We will use all available resources to bring this murderer to justice," Razo told reporters at the scene. "And I urge you, whoever did this, you know who you are, go now because we will find you, we will locate you, we will find you."
