HOUSTON – A man in a pickup truck stopped near a car that was leaving a parking lot in Walmart and started firing, killing a 7-year-old girl inside the car and injuring her mother, authorities said Sunday,

Three other girls were in the car, but it was not clear right away if they had also a relationship with the woman.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in posts on Twitter and Facebook that the dead girl was Jazmine Barnes, 7 years old. He added that his mother, LaPorsha Washington, 30, had been injured but had survived the injury.

The cause of the Sunday morning shooting was not entirely clear. No arrest was made Sunday night.

The red pickup truck fled after the shooting. According to the authorities, Sheriff Jesse Razo's commander said that the other girls inside the car at the time of the shooting were "shaken" and "devastated".

"We will use all available resources to bring this murderer to justice," Razo told reporters. "And I urge you, whoever did this, you know who you are, go now, because we will pick you up, we'll locate you, we'll meet you."
