The Italian astronomer Giuseppe Piazzi opened on December 31, 1802, one of the largest among the small planets – the first asteroid of Ceres. It is the dwarf planet closest to the Earth, sometimes approaching the distance of 263 million km. The next evening, it turned out that the star had somewhat different coordinates than before: it moved, wrote gazeta.ua.
Pizza followed a strange star for six weeks. He did not notice any disc that should have been on the planet, nor misty type, characteristic of comets. Then he could not find him anymore.
Pizza called the new planet Ceres in honor of the goddess of fertility and agriculture, patron saint of Sicily. In 1803 he received the Lalanda Prize from the Paris Academy of Sciences. The Ceresian orbit lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. The third ceremony consists of ice.
In 2006, the International Astronomical Union transferred it to dwarf planets. The widest body diameter of the asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter is 950 km
The NASA space agency showed a snapshot of the large crater of Ceres. He called himself Izzin. The cavities were named after the Sumerian goddess of grain. The diameter of the crater is about 120 km. The photograph was taken by Dawn Station on February 12, 2016, 385 km from Cérès.
