Daryl Dragon, the captain wearing the cap of pop group The Captain and Tennille, is dead. He was 76 years old.
Dragon died Wednesday of a kidney failure in a hospice in Prescott, Arizona, according to spokesman Harlan Boll, quoted by the Associated Press. Toni Tennille, Dragon's ex-wife and longtime musical partner, was at his side.

Dragon was born on August 27, 1942 in Los Angeles. He came from a family of musicians with his father Carmen, winner of an Academy Award as a composer and conductor, and his mother Eloise, a singer who worked among others on recordings of Bing Crosby, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In 1967, Dragon – a classical musician – began playing the keyboard for The Beach Boys, earning him the nickname "captain" of lead singer Mike Love because of his predilection for wearing captain's hat on stage.
Later, Dragon met Tennille and the duo soon started playing together, with Tennille singing and Keyboard Dragon – he also became a producer for The Captain and Tennille.
The duo completed the hit charts of the 1970s including "Muskrat Love", "Shop" and "Love will keep us together".
"Love will keep us together" catapulted the couple to stardom with their breakthrough coming in 1975 when they covered the Neil Sedaka-Howard Song of Greenfield, recorded by Sedaka himself in 1973 and released as a single in Europe.
