Activists praise the Houston area law enforcement for following up on a charge that led to the arrest of a man Afro-American during the shooting of a black girl aged 7 years.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced Sunday that prosecutors had charged Eric Black Jr., 20, with murder for the murder of Jazmine Barnes on December 30.

Gonzalez said that the murder was not a hate crime, as claimed by some in the community, but a case of false identity.

He claims that a second suspect was identified, also black, but declined to say whether the person was in detention.

The tip comes from a New York-based company. social activist and writer who had helped raise funds for a reward leading to information in the case.
