A San Diego television channel claims that CNN refused to use one of its reporters for a report about a border wall, because that did not correspond to network narration.
KUSI has accused CNN this week of asking for information. A local perspective on the effectiveness of the border wall, then withdrew when the channel offered to the reporter Dan Plante, who had already indicated that the wall was actually effective.
KUSI's digital content manager, Mike McKinnon III, wrote on the website of the network, "We believe that CNN refused a report from KUSI because we had informed them that most of the agents of the border patrol that we talked to told us that the barrier was really working. But a CNN spokesman called the statement "non-story".
"This happens several times a day," the spokesman told Fox News. "We did, however, book a KUSI reporter for an article on immigration and the border wall on CNN in November, which is a non-narrative".
A report released Friday by the Associated Press seemed to indicate that the local outlet could KUSI said on its Twitter that it "maintained our original story".
In the AP report, Steve Cohen, KUSI's information director, told CNN that he might not want Plant because his reports concluded that a border wall had worked well and that such a conclusion might not match the "story" of the cable network against the wall.
Cohen also stated that he never told anyone about CNN why Plantter was not being used.
"It is certainly plausible that they did not want it for the point of view, or I just did not want it," he said. "Both are plausible conclusions. I did one rather than the other.
But Cohen on Saturday issued a complementary statement claiming that the station "did not back down."
