LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Teachers' Union ended its strike for a week Tuesday night, union leaders said, massively backing an agreement with the second largest school district in the country.

On Wednesday, 900 public schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District restored a sense of normalcy for approximately 500,000 students.

Although the union has finished counting votes tomorrow, union president Alex Caputo-Pearl said the vast qualified majority had approved the settlement reached on Tuesday morning. The strike began on January 14th. Teachers called for reducing class sizes, increasing the number of school nurses and counselors.

"This is a historic agreement," said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti earlier in the day. "The time has come for a new day of public education in Los Angeles."

As Los Angeles teachers prepare to return to class, Denver teachers voted to strike with a 93% vote , reported the Denver Post. Teachers can withdraw as early as Monday, announced the post office, marking the union's first strike in 25 years.

"I was hoping and praying that this did not happen," said Nik Arnoldi's teacher at The Post after voting for the strike. "I'm worried about my kids and hope that they're in good hands, but we have to do it for them."

The Los Angeles Accord provides for the reduction of class size at all levels, 300 additional school nurses, 80 new teacher librarians, one counselor for 500 students, and a 3% increase for students. Teachers, said Caputo-Pearl during a press conference held on Tuesday evening
