WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 (Reuters) – Workers affected by the government shutdown should seek a loan to pay their bills and financial institutions should give credit, said US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, while employees were about to miss their second salary.
In an interview with CNBC, Ross stated that it was "disappointing" that some federal workers did not show up for work and that "there was really no excuse" for that affected workers do not have money.
"banks and credit unions should offer them credit," said Ross, a billionaire investor. He pointed out that the government has committed to pay federal employees salary arrears, adding "there is really no good excuse for triggering a liquidity crisis."
