The people of Chicago woke Saturday with extreme cold, with temperatures as low as -6 early in the morning.
We expect the maximum of Saturday to reach 12 degrees. In addition, 1 to 2 inches of snow should fall Saturday night, mainly in the southern suburbs. The snow should be over by 9 pm and will not be as serious as the snowstorm that will follow.
A winter storm warning is issued for 9 pm Sunday at 6 pm Monday for Kenosha, Racine and Walworth in Wisconsin. A winter storm watch will take effect at 6 pm Sunday at 6 pm Monday for Lake and McHenry counties in Illinois.
Warnings come as heavy snow – about 3 to 6 inches of snow, more than 10 inches in the northern suburbs – is expected to fall from Sunday to Monday.
