The number of deaths following the destruction of the dam on a mining site of iron near the Brazilian city of Brumadigno has grown to 40 people.
According to DW, rescuers continue to retreat under the rubble of the victims' bodies.
Twenty-three other wounded were transported to the hospital. More than a hundred people are still missing.
"Unfortunately, the chances of finding a life for the moment are minimal," said governor Minas Gerais, Romueu Zema.
The avalanche of mud, caused by the breakthrough of the dam, covered a juvenile canteen in which 300 workers were present during the lunch break. The cause of the disaster remains uncertain.
Previously, 34 victims of the breakthrough of the dam in Brazil had been reported.
