In September 2018, the prosecutor's office of the Sverdlovsk region has begun a large-scale examination of the circumstances of the death of tourists. "The goal is to leave a true version of the 75 versions," said Kurin.

He explained that the prosecutor's office is the only body that, according to law, can return to the investigation of the death of the group of Dyatlovo, although the event occurred there at age 60 and the limitation periods for criminal prosecution have been reduced.

Andrey Kurakov, head of the federal law enforcement agency of the Sverdlovsk oblast prosecutor's office, for his part explained that there were two reasons to check. The first – relatives of the dead want to know why they died. The second is to determine what happened to avoid repeating such events in the future.

For this reason, prosecutors from the Sverdlovsk region as well as experts and representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Ukraine will leave in March for the death of tourists. Previously, the prosecutor's office had only examined the documents from the old investigation.

Dyatlov's group belonged to nine student-tourists led by instructor Igor Dyatlovo. They went skiing in the north of the Ural and all died passing through the Sverdlovsk region in the Holatchakl Mountains.
