MOUNT DIABLO – Authorities reported that the pilot was the only person aboard the single-engined Mooney M20 who crashed Friday night into the night, causing the pilot's death. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said about 3 km southwest of the summit of Mount Diablo. The accident occurred "at an indeterminate time, Friday night," said Gregor, who then caught fire after crashing.
A spokeswoman for California State Parks said that one person had been killed and that no other injuries had been reported in the accident.
The fire protection district of the San Ramon Valley was called to Mount Diablo State Park at 2:41 pm Saturday for a plane crash report, but a regulator said that the call had been canceled while the crews were on the scene.

The pilot was Gregor announced to have flown from Hayward to Lincoln, northeast of Sacramento, and that He would have been late Saturday, Gregor said.
Authorities did not reveal any information about the causes of the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an accident investigation in collaboration with the FAA, Gregor said.
