A man accused of killing a Milwaukee officer during a drug roundup at his home told investigators that he had not realized that police were trying to him to break the door, announced the authorities. Rittner, a 17-year-old police veteran, was the third Milwaukee officer killed in the line of duty in eight months. The department had already spent more than two decades without such a death.
