A missing 14-year-old girl was found alive in Wisconsin on Thursday, about 300 km from her home in Tennessee, police said.

She was reported missing earlier this month, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Thursday evening. Police arrested his adoptive father on rape charges Thursday earlier for allegedly assaulting the teenager.

"He was arrested and charged with rape, we do not think at that time that he was linked to his fugue or disappearance," said Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones on Thursday. , at a press conference. "I must be vague in all my statement as it is an ongoing investigation."

He said that it was possible that "several other charges be brought" with several people involved.

The girl disappeared from her home in Madisonville, Tennessee, about 70 km east of Chattanooga on Jan. 13, police said. Her mother said that she had last seen her before going to bed between 11pm. and 23:30

Jones stated that he could not disclose who she was with when she was found, but he said that she had family in Wisconsin. He said that he did not believe that she was related to the people with whom she had been found.

"She is safe, she is in custody, so it's a very good ending for us," Jones said. "She had a shelter, she was eating and, according to the information we received, she's fine."

ABC News does not identify the teenager because she is an alleged victim of sexual assault, according to police.
