Police arrested a suspect in Boston who allegedly abducted a young woman who had disappeared over the weekend and was found alive in the man's apartment on Tuesday.
The arrest marked the end of an intense search on 23-year-old Olivia Ambrose, who disappeared Saturday night after leaving the Hennessey's Bar in the North End neighborhood of Boston, according to the police.
Police arrested Victor Pena, 38, on Tuesday night, charged with kidnapping his apartment in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, about 3 km north of the bar where Ambrose had been seen for the last time .
Boston Police Department Investigators from the Boston Police Department said they found evidence on Ambrose's cell phone that had taken them to the suspect's apartment. They did not have to force the entrance; the suspect opened the door and the police saw the victim inside. She was taken to a local hospital for assessment.
She appeared to be in good health, the police department said. The officials did not give details of his emotional state.
"We are more than happy to have Livy at home," her mother, Heather, told WCVB, a subsidiary of Boston ABC. Earlier this week, authorities released a surveillance video around midnight Sunday, showing Pena with her arm around Ambrose as they were leaving the MBTA station at Bunker Hill Community in Charlestown. They were seen walking together about 10 minutes later and the suspect appeared to be guiding her, the police said.
"Today is a good day, Miss Ambrose was found alive," Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said Tuesday at a news conference. "It's clear from the video surveillance that she was not going on her side."
