A customs officer and border guard fired on a driver Thursday who was trying to crush an officer at an entry point on the US-Mexican border in Arizona, reports said.

Mexican border services officers circled the vehicle after its momentum. on the other side of the border, and they found two men inside, according to the Republic of Arizona. The driver was shot in the head and a passenger was arrested, the newspaper quoted a local outlet, Nogales International as saying.

The condition of the driver was not available in the immediate future.

Nogales Mayor Arturo Garino told FOX10 Phoenix that he had heard from other city officials the driver was trying to cross the port of DeConcini to the south, Mexico.

Border Protection and Nogales police officers both alerted that the port of entry was in the line closed due to an emergency, but did not specify. The agencies issued an update about an hour later, indicating that the pass had been reopened.
