The Fort Myers Police Service identified Adam Jobbers-Miller as the officer who was shot dead on Saturday night while he was responding to the Marathon Station service on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Fort Myers

A release sent by the Fort Myers Police indicated that Jobbers-Miller was transported to the Lee Trauma Center Memorial Hospital by a fellow officer where he underwent emergency surgery. Police also said that a suspect was in detention.

"Words can not express the emotions that cross the Fort Myers police family at that time," said Police Chief Derrick Diggs. "Our department spent the night waiting impatiently while our comrade and colleague underwent a rescue operation. We are grateful to the many individuals and agencies who have expressed their support, to the health professionals who rushed to save him and to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Florida Law Enforcement Department and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) for their immediate help.

29-year-old Jobbers-Miller has been a police officer in Fort Myers since September 2015 and was the only police officer injured in this incident.

Her family was notified and is by her side, according to the police
