A Union Pacific train struck Friday on a school bus in East Texas, killing a college student and injuring the bus driver and another student, authorities said.
The accident occurred around 4 pm. When the bus, from the local school district, was trying to cross the railway in Athens, a city of 12,700 inhabitants located about 70 km southeast of Dallas, reported the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

He stated that a 13-year-old student had been killed and that the 78-year-old bus driver was in a stable condition after being hospitalized for unspecified injuries, said Hill. A 9-year-old girl attending Central Athens Elementary School was injured and transported to a Dallas hospital where she was in critical but stable condition.
No other students were in the bus, according to the school district.
"My heart is broken for families," said Superintendent of the School, Blake Stiles.

The two Fox 4 Dallas students reported that the authorities were still determining the cause of the collision.
