The friend of a US student killed in the Netherlands said that she had texted him about his roommate's desire to kill people less than a week before his assassination.
Sarah Papenheim, 21, was stabbed to death Wednesday in her apartment in Rotterdam. The authorities arrested a 23-year-old man, identified by Joel Schelling, according to a source close to the investigation, at a train station a few hours later.
He was Papenheim's roommate while she was studying at Erasmus University.
Facebook / Sarah Papenheim Adam Pryor met Papenheim on the Minneapolis music scene and the two quickly became friends. Papenheim was a talented jazz and blues drummer, while he played the organ. The two regularly participated in jam sessions at local clubs in the city. They continued to be close friends after she decided to move to the Netherlands in 2016 to live with her boyfriend and study music.
Pryor shared with ABC News a series of text messages that Papenheim sent her on December 6 in which she said: "My roommate told me that he was going to kill 3 people. go to the police. "
It is not known whether Papenheim has ever been to the police, but she was found dead in her apartment six days later.
"I could say that she was not doing well because she was weird about a text, and then I asked her what was wrong and what was wrong? she said she was not talking to anyone anymore, "Pryor told" Good Morning America ". "[She said]," I work full time and I have school full time and everything is so upset now. My roommate told me that he was going to kill three people, so I'll have to go to the police there. "
Pryor stated that she never stated that she was in danger or that her roommate was threatening her.
"After I said that I thought that he was angry at some people, I did not feel that she was in danger." , did he declare. "I could never have guessed it was her." Just like she did, he was angry at other people or something that had happened. I had confidence in her, she was very responsible, she would go to the police and take care of everything, I never thought anything like this was going to happen. "
Adam Pryor Papenheim told his mother that she had spoken to Schelling about music – he was a talented cellist – but he tended to get angry and she was the only one who could calm him down.
Her mother, Donee Odegard, said that she had told her daughter to "not be with him," but as his mother recalled, Papenheim had said, "Mom, he is my friend. I am his only friend, he would be angry, but I can always talk to him and change his mind. "
Pryor is said to be shocked by the murder of his friend, the "best friend 'who anyone can ask for."
"I just feel empty – the loss of my best friend, shared connections through music, through life," said Pryor. "I've never been so close to people who love blues as much as I do and who get along with everything about personality.
"It's so amazing what happened, it's so terrible," he said.

"I saw her play drums and I had just been playing with her and playing the organ and I had never heard anybody from anybody. As young as my age, being able to play so hard and play as well and give rhythm, "Pryor recounted how he had developed a friendship with her. "It was just amazing.We talked all the time there, textually or by everyone, to school or elsewhere.It's just – it's one of a kind. "
Schelling appeared for the first time in court on Friday when the judge ordered him to detain him for another 14 days during the investigation.
